Final Guard Squad and New Officer

A quick update to the Imperial Guard army today, as well as a general status report.  Me and Headologist are working hard to put the final touches to the forthcoming Necromunda Campaign Weekend.  We've got four (possibly five) fully painted gangs and scenarios all written out ready.  H is back in town later this week and we've got a terrain-making day planned, so I'll try to get some photos for that as well.  Looking further ahead, I've ordered my first ever WW1 miniatures from Musketeer, so there'll hopefully be something on that in the coming months.

Back to the present though - and I've been finishing off my last few Palladian Guardsmen.  With the news that GW have officially pulled the plug on the Collectors range, that has solidified my aspirations on the Guard army; I know I can only ever do a company-sized force.  A little sad, but a full six-company battalion would have been very costly and probably taken the best part of a decade to collect.  So I sadly took out my last batch of unpainted Mordians, resisted the temptation to put them on Ebay at £10 per figure, and painted them up.  There they are - probably the last squad to reenforce Second Battalion.

Having said all that, I still have roughly six squads of Palladians, enough to model two companies, and I'll probably top up the army every now and again with a few Ebay purchases.

I also bought an old Valhallan Lieutenant off the GW site before the Collectors were pulled, so I converted him up as a Palladian officer ready as a stand-in in case ay existing officers are killed.  I now have about nine such deputies ready to take the place of my casualties so I'm not worried about running out any time soon.

And that's all for now!  Stay tuned, the campaign weekend will hopefully be written up for Monday or Tuesday next week.

Thanks for reading.

The Colonel

    1. Cheers Mike, yep out of all the Guard armies available, that aesthetic appealed to me the most. It also allows me to incorporate a few direct historical references in there. Can never have too many one-pippers hanging about! SO5 (Boring Jobs), is the full title I believe...

  2. Excellent stuff ! Never fear, as I'm sure that there will be plenty of opportunities to keep adding; Specialists from other regiments will be attached for specific campaigns/operations I'm sure.

And Lt-cum-capt Octavius Severous (whoever he is) gets his medal parade this month !

    1. Cheers mate, that's a good point. Scipio's personal bodyguard being a prime example. I should stop moping.

Ooooh medals! Glad the Palladians are spreading their sterling reputation!

    2. It was a gristly battle though. I'm going down to the club in a few weeks and the guy wants a rematch - possible that another could be slotted into the fluff?

    3. Of course; just send me the batrep; As part of 17 Korps, there's not going to be a lot of R&R in their near future.

  3. There are plenty of 3rd party minis producers that can supply some very nice "Palladian" sculpts should the need arise. :)

Failing that, like Zzzzzz says, liason officers and units can also suppliment where needed, I'm sure.

Grand looking Guard sir - I think a grand family photo is in order.

    1. Of course. In fact I've used a few VL conversion bitz already. See previous comment regretting my moping; we're very lucky to have things like that. You're very kind Mr D - when I paint up the last mob of Sentinels a mass-phot is in order.

  5. Neat little conversion to that Valhallan Officer. Did you get those minis in the post yet? I know they can take a bit to get across the Atlantic.

    1. Cheers - actually it turned out a little ugly round the back of the neck and I noticed a spot of white showing through on the flamer (gasp) so there may be a trip back to the paint shed for these guys. Oh, have a look at your email, message sent re those minis.

  6. Fantastic work, man! Absolutely dig the Valhallan conversion, it looks great!

Definitely looking forward to reading about the Necromunda campaign, it's got me wondering what gangs lurk within the Closet of Doom - may be time to do a little spelunking!

    1. Thanks, I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Valhallans and this is my tip of the hat to them, now the minis are OOP. And can't wait to see what the Closet has in store!

    1. Thanks Col :) yep there's really no rational reason for it to be any bigger. I'd need another figure case anyhoo, so you're probably right.
