Posties Rejects 20 Questions

Don't come near me!

I'm infected!!

With the latest viral sensation sweeping through the blogs - answering the Posties Rejects 20 Questions.  Deep breath, and here goes ... but make sure you take a look at Fran and Ray's answers, as well as Vladdd's (where I caught the disease).

Favourite Wargaming Period, and Why?

Second World War.  My first historical interest, and my love of films about the period never dies.

Next Period, money no object?

ACW.   A recent convert, but as perhaps the first 'modern war' it's interesting relative to all periods after it as well.  The large scale makes it difficult for me to wargame but if I had all the money in the world I'd do a 28mm, 1:1 scale battle of Shiloh over a week.

Favourite five films?

Dr Strangelove
The General
Where Eagles Dare
Inglorious Basterds
Richard III (1995 version)

Favourite five TV series?

The Simpsons (pre Season 7, including 1-3!)
Yes Minister
In The Loop
Fry & Laurie
Alan Partridge

Favourite book and author?

There's no way this is getting answered without recourse to another top five:

The Secret Agent
Riddle of the Sands
Starship Troopers
Crime and Punishment
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress

Probably Heinlein for the top author, only because he has two of the top five.

Greatest General?  Can't count yourself!

William T Sherman

Don't mess with the Shermanator.

Favourite Wargame rules?

Gah!  Tough.  If I could divorce myself from all the associated memories of profiteering it's still 40K I'm afraid.  I grew up on them, and despite what 40K is today I still love the game.

Favourite Sport and Team?

Cricket.  England.  'Nuff said.

If you had a one-use-only time machine, when and where would you go?

Wednesday night, back to my bedroom and set the alarm properly so I'm not late for work.

Last meal on Death Row?

Cake with a file and a hacksaw in it.

Fantasy relationship and why?

The Mexican girl who works at the Subway near me.  Because she's the most beautiful woman in the world who has ever lived.  (Or, in case Mrs Scipio still reads this, Mrs Scipio,  because she's the most beautiful woman in the world who has ever lived.

If your life were a movie, who would play you?

Tom Hardy, because he looks like me (apparently) - or James Mason for gravitas value.

Favourite comic book superhero?

Hmmm... does Calvin count?

Favourite military quote?

Lord Uxbridge: By God, Sir. I've lost my leg.

Duke of Wellington: By God, Sir. So you have.

Historical destination to visit?

The Somme/Belgium in general.

Biggest Wargaming regret?
Taking a break a few years back, then having to re-learn painting from scratch.

Favourite fantasy job?

Test firer for MG42s, test driver for Tiger Is, test firer for (1860s) Gatling Gun ... you get the idea.

Favourite song top 5?

Acid Jazz Singer, Fratellis
Workin' at the Car Wash Blues, Jim Croce
Light Cavalry Overture, Franz von Suppe
Zuton Fever, Zutons
Blaze Away, Abe Holtzmann

Favourite Wargaming moment?

Impossible to choose.  Just about any game I've played over the last 10 years has a moment that could qualify - but the moment when I killed my own commander with a stray Earthshaker shot would be hard to beat for comedy value.

The Miserable Git Question:  what upsets you?

Making lists of things that upset me.

Spread it!  Back to wargaming next update, promise!

The Colonel

  1. Inglorious Bastards, I forgot about that film! Some great choices and we need a sneaky pic of the Mexican girl!

    1. @Laughing Ferret: Brilliant! "Listen here, Colonel Bat Guano, if that really is your name ..."

@Vladdd: I suppose he's a hero, and in a comic. I have a lot of fond memories of 40K and I'm sure there will be many more good games to be had yet!

  4. The Mexican girl who works at the Subway near me. Because she's the most beautiful woman in the world who has ever lived.

Had a good chuckle at that one. I always tell my missus if I was going to leave her it would be for the good looking mexican bird down the local shops - must be a mexican thing.

    1. Cheers Pom - I know you understand :) although I can tell you're much more open with your missus than I am. If I ever said that I'd get a rolling pin on my head, followed by a lump with birds flying round it.

  5. LOl this is a great idea and you list is funny as. I agree on Dr Strangelove, good choice. Also a mate of mine actually named his kid Calvin after that strip.
As for Mexicans, I don't know any, but I do work with a Columbian girl- but drop dead gorgeous isn't my thing. :)
